An Essay for my Ethics Class

The Chernobyl accident in April 26, 1996, the explosion of the reactor, caused a strong reaction to the public. It was caused by the negligence of safety by two engineers. In this essay, I am going to discuss the following: (1) ethical decisions involved in the story; (2) ethical decisions of the engineers; and (3) how ethical and moral the engineers.

An ethical decision involved here is them choosing to foresee the potential consequences and risks of avoiding the security systems. With that in mind, they could significantly lower the scale of the incident.

Both of the engineers downplayed the safety precautions and played with the reactor, which was an “unauthorised experiment”, and insisted on interacting with it. Since they are considered excellent in their field, they were, without a doubt, fully knowledgeable of the danger they did. They weren’t honest to the rules agreed upon; and respectful to the well-being of the people around. Being in their position, it is their duty to reduce any possible harm to the minimum. This means being strict in their experiments, to protect, as it is human right of people who are related to the engineers.

The engineer’s ethical decisions were very unethical. It is evident that what they did was wrong, no matter how little the risks are. They were not moral as they broke the trust of the people they were working with. Engineers must paramount the ethics of their job in the performance of their professional duties. They were no good things that could result from not obeying the rules.
